Irrigation systems in Florence and across Northern Kentucky take a real beating through the summer. Systems that made it through spring without obvious issues often develop problems in June and July when they are running at full demand. The good news is that most mid-season issues are straightforward to fix when caught before they do damage.
Shifted or sunken heads are one of the most common problems. A head that was perfectly aimed at installation can get knocked off angle by a mower, foot traffic, or simple soil movement. Once it is off, it either covers the wrong area or does not pop up correctly. The result shows up as a dry strip or a wet spot depending on which direction it shifted.
Pressure problems are another frequent mid-season issue. Low pressure reduces spray distance and leaves coverage gaps. High pressure causes misting, which loses water to evaporation before it reaches the ground. Both are wasteful and both are fixable once identified.
Leaks at fittings or along lines often start small and go unnoticed until the water bill arrives. A line that developed a crack over winter may have gotten through spring without causing an obvious problem but becomes more apparent as the system runs daily in summer heat.
Zone controller issues, including zones that do not trigger on schedule or that run longer than programmed, can indicate electrical problems or valve wear. These tend to get worse over time and are worth addressing sooner rather than later.
